Hikurangi Repo environmental improvement

This aims to restore and protect the natural environment, support sustainable land use, strengthen hapū rangatiratanga and kaitiakitanga, and improve long-term flood management and climate resilience for the Hikurangi area and downstream communities.

Kamo Road bridge strengthening

Strengthening work on the Kamo Road Bridge is scheduled to take place from May through to August 2026. These works are part of our ongoing programme to maintain and improve key transport infrastructure across the District.

Kamo Road pedestrian signals – Whau Valley Primary School

We are upgrading and relocating the existing zebra crossing outside Whau Valley School on Kamo Road.

Kensington Sports Park carpark upgrade

We are upgrading and formalising the Park Avenue carpark at Kensington Sports Park to provide a safer, more accessible and better organised parking area.

Kopipi Crescent new footpath

We are constructing some new footpaths on Kopipi Crescent and Pine Road in Ngunguru, including new kerb and channelling, minor drainage and signage upgrades, new bollards and upgraded playground frontage and a new pedestrian-friendly connection to the Ngunguru Sports Complex.

Locky Dock secure bike parking

Free and secure bike parking is in Whangārei with 15 new Locky Dock bike-parking stations being installed around the city.

Ohawini Bay coastal projects

Two projects are included in these works. Taiwa Road ramp is a project to install a concrete ramp from the beach up to Taiwa Road to provide vehicle access to the properties on Taiwa Road. Waikaukau causeway is a project to repair the existing causeway to provide vehicle access to properties on Ohawini Bay.

We are replacing a section of a trunk main, which connects our freshwater catchment in Poroti to our Ruddles water treatment plant before branching off in several directions towards town.

Pātaua North seawall

This project aims to prevent erosion, which is threatening the road shoulder of Aubrey Road in Pātaua North, and to provide a footpath that is separate from the road.

Pātaua South beach replenishment

We are replenishing the sand on the southern side of the Pātaua South estuary beach to reduce erosion, increase beach width and help protect coastal assets from storm impacts.

Reyburn Street bridge strengthening

The project includes removing a redundant water main, completing concrete repairs, and installing a strengthening system and new steel beams to improve bridge performance and durability.

Takahiwai (Pukekauri) Dam acquired lands

We are seeking to contact all people who have an interest in the many plots of land that were acquired in 1928 to form the Takahiwai Dam, to discuss future plans for the dam and the land.

Te Kamo carpark resurfacing and pedestrian improvements

The Te Kamo village carpark is scheduled for resurfacing as part of renewal works to repair existing pavement damage. Improvements will also be made to enhance pedestrian safety and the organisation of parking spaces.
