We are upgrading the water infrastructure along Station Road to improve water supply and support future growth.

This project includes:

  • replacing the trunk main along the north side of Station Road
  • replacing a smaller section of water pipe on the south side of the road.

Why we’re doing this

The trunk main is the primary water supply for the eastern side of Te Kamo, and Tikipunga, including the water storage tanks that serve these areas.

The new 355mm diameter trunk main will replace the existing 50-year-old 250mm pipe, providing improved water pressure, increased capacity and greater reliability for a growing population.

What to expect

Work will be carried out using horizontal directional drilling, where pipes are drilled underground. This avoids open trenching and helps minimise disruption to residents, businesses and traffic.

Construction will take place in the road corridor, beginning near the State Highway 1 overpass, and continuing in sections towards Gillingham Road. Works will then continue from the overpass in sections to the Kamo Road intersection. 

Traffic management

For the majority of this project, lane shifting will be used to allow space for works in the corridor while allowing vehicles to travel in both directions at reduced speed limits. 

Stop / go set-ups may be required at times, however this will be limited as much as possible to avoid disruption. 

Some bus stops may be temporarily relocated during parts of the project.

Water outage 

A planned water shutdown will be required toward the end of the project when the new pipes are connected to the network.

This will result in an outage for surrounding properties and will likely take place overnight for a maximum of two nights. Affected customers will be notified in advance.
