Cycling and shared paths

Many trips in Whangārei can be made by walking or riding a bike, and our expanding network of shared paths can even provide shortcuts for the most common routes.

Shared paths are separate from roads and motor traffic. They get people from A to B on bikes, scooters, mobility scooters and skateboards, or by walking. They're great for commuter cyclists, but please watch out for kids, people in wheelchairs and others.

Why make your trips on a shared path? Because it's faster, safer, less congested, easy to access bike parking, good exercise and fun!

Hātea Loop Shared Path - Huarahi o te Whai

A multi-use loop walk and cycleway at the Town Basin that passes a playground, sculptures, bridges, Camera Obscura, skatepark and the Pohe Island Bike Park. Dogs are allowed on leash.

Pop-up Pump Track

Our Pop-up Pump Track is free to enjoy on scooters, skateboards and bikes. It includes a circuit of hills and bumps, rollers and banked turns. The track is currently on Park Street in Hikurangi.
