Dave Culham Drive temporary road closure

Event date: Thursday, 22 October 2026 | 06:00 AM to 06:00 PM

Dave Culham Drive, including Te Matau a Pohe Bridge, will be closed to all through traffic for asphalt resurfacing works.

Period of closure: 6:00am to 6:00pm on Thursday 22 October 2026 (weather dependent)

These works are required to improve the road surface and extend the life of the pavement.

What this means for bridge and road users

No through access will be available for vehicle traffic along Dave Culham Drive during the works. 

Please follow the detour via Port Road, Reyburn Street, Dent Street and Riverside Drive.

Access to the bike park and dog park will remain available from the Riverside Drive end.

Pedestrian access will be maintained, although short delays may occur while machinery is operating nearby.

Skippers who are intending on travelling through the bridge during this time are advised to plan ahead and carry out their trips either before or after this closure period. As always, skippers are encouraged to contact Bridge Control for updates prior to setting off. 

Advance warning signage and electronic message boards will be in place prior to the closure.

Additional network impacts

Road users are advised that these works are expected to place additional pressure on surrounding routes. Motorists should expect increased traffic volumes and delays on:

• Port Road
• Riverside Drive
• Kioreroa Road
• Rewa Rewa Road
• other alternative routes within the city network.

Please allow extra travel time, plan journeys in advance where possible, and follow all temporary traffic management signage.
