A busy pedestrian scene on Cameron Street Mall in Whangārei, with blurred figures walking past planted garden beds and seating areas.

We wanted to hear your views on a proposed new Public Safety and Nuisance Bylaw to replace parts of our expiring Public Places Bylaw.

The proposed new bylaw seeks to regulate various things, including:

  • nuisance and intimidation
  • obstruction
  • rough sleeping
  • private encroachment
  • bikes, scooters and skateboards in the Cameron Street pedestrian mall
  • motor vehicles on grassed areas
  • fireworks
  • aircraft use
  • activities in parks and reserves
  • planting and removing vegetation
  • the display of building numbers
  • horses and stock on beaches
  • the construction of private vehicle crossings.

The proposal includes a separate Horses on Beaches Control proposed to be made under the authority of the bylaw.
