A petition was submitted to us by local residents and business owners advocating for increasing safety measures and reducing the number of speeding vehicles on Clark Road and Three Mile Bush Road. Their main concern was the speed of vehicles around Kamo Primary School, which is situated at the intersection of these two roads.

There are two additional schools, a sports ground and the main Kamo shopping centre, within one kilometre of Clark Road. So, there are a significant number of pedestrians, cyclists and motorists who use these roads.

The area of Clark Road and Three Mile Bush Road in Te Kamo is one of several neighbourhoods receiving safety upgrades as part of our Slow Streets and Urban Traffic Calming projects around Whangārei.

What we are doing in the area?

  • Creating safer intersections
  • Installing new raised platforms
  • Undertaking improvements to the existing zebra crossings in line with new standards and guidelines
  • Improving some areas of footpath
  • Improving drainage
  • Installing new signage
  • Undertaking some minor lighting improvements

What to expect

The works are expected to start in early January 2024. We are aiming to begin in the school holiday break to minimise disruption.

There will be traffic management in place with some detours and several areas where the parking will be restricted to allow two-way traffic flow. We will update with further details closer to the start of work.

History of the project
