Whangārei's urban spaces are shining brighter than ever in time for Christmas, with the canopy in Cameron Street Mall now joining the Canopy Bridge, Te Matua a Pohe bridge and Kotuitui Whitinga footbridge as an illuminated landmark.

Council Venues and Events Manager Bea Mossop says, by using programmable, colour-changing LEDs, these installations can be tailored for special occasions, holidays and seasonal festivities, enhancing the city's ambience while showcasing its unique architectural features.

Beyond aesthetics, well-lit spaces also contribute to safety by deterring crime and encouraging people to enjoy the city after dark.

“This project is about creating a city that feels alive and welcoming. Lighting up our landmarks not only makes Whangārei more vibrant, but also gives us the flexibility to celebrate cultural events, holidays and community milestones in a visually stunning way.”
