Kaiikanui Road limited access
Kaiikanui Road is restricted to locals and anyone performing priority travel (for example contractors making repairs).
This restriction is in place because a slip at Helena Bay Hill has closed Russell Road.
Traffic management
- Pilot vehicles operate from 6:30am to 6:30pm, seven days a week, including public holidays.
- Outside these hours, the road remains open, but extreme caution is advised.
- The road is controlled by traffic lights from 14 Kaiikanui Road to approximately 160 Webb Road.
- You must stop and wait for the pilot vehicle. Do not proceed through a red light.
Important information for local users
If you are a local travelling on Kaiikanui Road via Pigs Head Road or Webb Road:
- Keep left at all times. Traffic may be approaching from the opposite direction, even on narrow sections.

- Speed limit is 30km/h.
- The road is not suitable for caravans, campervans, boats or heavy vehicles.

The recommended route is:

- Continue via Russell - Whakapara Road
This route is fully sealed and suitable for all vehicle types.
