Under clause 12.1 of the Camping in Public Places Bylaw, Whangarei District Council advises that freedom camping at the designated site at A H Reed Memorial Park is temporarily prohibited following the detection of kauri dieback disease within the park. This temporary prohibition is necessary to prevent the spread of the disease in the area.
The temporary prohibition applies from 25 May to 7 June 2026. Council may extend this temporary prohibition via a subsequent public notice.
Failure to comply with the temporary prohibition constitutes an offence against Council’s Camping in Public Places Bylaw and may incur a fine of $400.
Council thanks visitors and the public for their cooperation in helping to protect our natural taonga.
