Pipiwai Road temporary road closure

Event date: Monday, 02 November 2026 | 07:00 AM to Saturday, 28 November 2026 | 07:00 PM

Rehabilitation works will be carried out on Pipiwai Road to improve the condition and safety of the road. These works require a temporary road closure while pavement rehabilitation is completed.

Period of closure: Monday 2 November to Saturday 28 November 2026.

The road will be fully closed (day and night) for approximately 10 days from Monday 2 November, followed by daily closures between 7:00am and 7:00pm, Monday to Saturday, until completion. Dates may change due to weather conditions.

The closure will be in place on Pipiwai Road, from just past 51 Pipiwai Road (Shields Bros Panel & Paint) through to Parakiore Road.

A detour will be available via Dip Road.

Property access will be maintained throughout the works.

New bylaws may affect new approvals

From Friday 25 September 2026, three new bylaws are now in force: Public Safety and Nuisance Bylaw; Public Trading, Events and Commercial Filming Bylaw; and Signs Bylaw. Existing permits and exemptions remain valid, but some new approvals may be affected.

Notice of temporary dog access rule

Hātea walkway swing bridge temporarily closed

The Hātea walkway swing bridge on the walking trail from A H Reed Memorial Kauri Park to Whangārei Falls is closed following a failed safety inspection. We are working with specialist engineers and contractors to replace the bridge structure to ensure necessary stabilisation and safety improvements.
