The Whangārei Ranfurly Shield Fan Trail
Taniwha fan trail set to bring blue and white spirit to Whangārei.
The community is invited to join a free Taniwha fan trail and walking parade through central Whangārei on Saturday 12 September as Northland prepares to defend the Ranfurly Shield against Waikato.
Organised by Whangarei District Council, with support from Northland Rugby, the family-friendly event will feature live music from local favourites Mermaid Bait, free face painting, and a walking parade to Semenoff Stadium.
Whangārei District Mayor Ken Couper says the event is a chance for the community to come together and get behind the Taniwha.
"The Ranfurly Shield is a special part of Northland rugby history, and this is a great opportunity for our community to come together and show its support for the Taniwha. We encourage people of all ages to pull on their blue and white, join the fan trail and help create a memorable atmosphere ahead of the big game."
Supporters are encouraged to wear their blue and white colours and join fellow fans in creating a sea of Taniwha pride ahead of the afternoon's rugby action.
