Kickstart your garden for spring! Join us for a free composting workshop.

This workshop is a practical compost-making demonstration, building a thermal compost pile and showing the process step by step from start to finish.

You will learn:

how to build compost that stays aerobic
how to protect the organisms that drive soil fertility
how to understand temperature, oxygen, fungi, bacteria and biology as a complete living system.

This is a free event, proudly supported by Whangarei District Council.

Hātea walkway swing bridge temporarily closed

The Hātea walkway swing bridge on the walking trail from A H Reed Memorial Kauri Park to Whangārei Falls is closed following a failed safety inspection. We are working with specialist engineers and contractors to replace the bridge structure to ensure necessary stabilisation and safety improvements.

Kotuitui Whitinga bridge marine and pedestrian closure

Kotuitui Whitinga bridge will be closed for repainting from 6:00am on Monday 14 September to 6:00am on Monday 21 September 2026.

Pedestrians on the Hātea Loop Shared Path can follow the marked detour route via Port Road and Herekino Street.

Skippers should contact Bridge Control for updates prior to setting off and plan trips either side of the closure.
