Kotata Rise in Port Whangārei is one of several neighbourhoods receiving safety upgrades and traffic-calming measures. 

The work includes measures to reduce the speed of cars and make it safer for pedestrians and cyclists along Kotata Rise and Southend Avenue.

Customers will notice new works and minor changes to existing infrastructure, including:

  • the installation of new traffic islands outside BestStart Childcare Centre to allow safe crossing and narrowing of the road for speed management 
  • changes to road markings, including narrowing of driving lanes, new marked parking bays and road medians, to allow safer turning into side roads and driveways
  • a new guardrail 
  • other minor changes, including signage and minor footpath renewals and drainage works. 

We look forward to seeing these safety improvements undertaken for the wider community.
