Kotata Rise in Port Whangārei received safety upgrades and traffic-calming measures to reduce the speed of cars and make it safer for pedestrians and cyclists along Kotata Rise and Southend Avenue.

This project included:

  • the installation of new traffic islands outside BestStart Childcare Centre to allow safe crossing and narrowing of the road for speed management 
  • changes to road markings, including narrowing of driving lanes, new marked parking bays and road medians, to allow safer turning into side roads and driveways
  • a new guardrail 
  • other minor changes, including signage and minor footpath renewals and drainage works.
