Class 4 Gambling Venue Policy

This policy is about Council's role in regulating class 4 gambling venues, which are those with non-casino electronic gambling machines, commonly known as 'pokie machines'. These venues can include pubs, hotels and clubs, but not casinos.

Three-yearly review of this policy is required by the Gambling Act 2003. At its meeting on 26 June 2025, Council reviewed this policy and decided to continue it without amendment.

Hātea walkway swing bridge temporarily closed

The Hātea walkway swing bridge on the walking trail from A H Reed Memorial Kauri Park to Whangārei Falls is closed following a failed safety inspection. We are working with specialist engineers and contractors to replace the bridge structure to ensure necessary stabilisation and safety improvements.

Rates rebate widened

Changes to the thresholds mean some ratepayers who weren't eligible for a rates rebate in 2024-25 might be eligible in 2025-26. Homeowners can check their eligibility and apply for the 2025-26 rates rebate below. If you received a rebate last year, we have sent you a form for 2025-26, which you should have received by the end of July 2025.
