Alfresco Dining Policy

Our Alfresco Dining Policy outlines how Council land can be used as outdoor seating for cafes and restaurants. It doesn't apply to private land. Our policy encourages appropriate, well designed alfresco dining that enhances areas for pedestrians, diners, visitors and residents.

It has special sections that apply to Cameron Street Mall and the Town Basin.

Wastewater network capacity

We are carefully managing the capacity of our wastewater network in Ruakākā and parts of Whangārei Heads. Before applying for a Resource Consent or Building Consent, please contact us to find out whether your project may be impacted.

Kamo Road, Station Road and Three Mile Bush Road intersection closure

The Kamo Road, Station Road and Three Mile Bush Road intersection will be closed for night works to connect sections of the new trunk main into the water network as part of the Station Road trunk main upgrade project.

Period of closure: Sunday 13, Monday 14, Tuesday 15 and Wednesday 16 September 2026, 6:30pm to 5:00am each night.

Hātea walkway swing bridge temporarily closed

The Hātea walkway swing bridge on the walking trail from A H Reed Memorial Kauri Park to Whangārei Falls is closed following a failed safety inspection. We are working with specialist engineers and contractors to replace the bridge structure to ensure necessary stabilisation and safety improvements.

Kotuitui Whitinga bridge marine and pedestrian closure

Kotuitui Whitinga bridge will be closed for repainting from 6:00am on Monday 14 September to 6:00am on Monday 21 September 2026.

Pedestrians on the Hātea Loop Shared Path can follow the marked detour route via Port Road and Herekino Street.

Skippers should contact Bridge Control for updates prior to setting off and plan trips either side of the closure.
