Community organisations are once again operating from the Old Municipal Building, bringing a wide range of support, information and community connections back under one roof in central Whangārei.

From Monday 19 October 2026, the building's ground floor has reopened as a community hub, home to Multicultural Whangārei, Volunteering Northland, Northland Multiple Sclerosis Society, Women's International Newcomers Group Social (WINGS) and Dyslexia Plus.

Whether it's helping newcomers settle into the community, connecting volunteers with meaningful opportunities, supporting people living with multiple sclerosis, assisting individuals and whānau affected by dyslexia, or creating friendship networks for women new to the area, the groups play an important role in community wellbeing.

Multicultural Whangārei Centre Coordinator Suzzette Monroe said the team was delighted to be back in the building.

"We are thrilled to return to our home in the Old Municipal Building. We are deeply grateful to everyone who helped make this move possible and look forward to continuing to serve our community in this wonderful, restored space."

Northland Multiple Sclerosis Society Office Manager Wende Quin said the organisation was pleased to be returning to its familiar base.

"Northland Multiple Sclerosis has been based at the Old Municipal Building since 1983, providing support and vital services to our local communities. We are thrilled to now be back home in our former office space, which has been beautifully restored."

Volunteering Northland Manager Bev Giles said the organisation was looking forward to welcoming people through its doors.

"Volunteering Northland is delighted to have moved into the Old Municipal Building. We love our new space and look forward to welcoming our board, member organisations, volunteers and other community groups."

Residents looking for support, information, volunteering opportunities or ways to connect with others are encouraged to visit the organisations at their new home in the Old Municipal Building.
