Māori Governance In-Person Workshop

Are you a part of a not-for-profit board (or similar) in the Whangārei District?

Join us for this Māori governance session that is tailored to strengthening governance capability through a te ao Māori lens while supporting your strategic direction and organisational priorities.

This full-day workshop will cover:

Key Māori governance principles such as rangatiratanga, kaitiakitanga, mana, whanaungatanga and accountability.
The practical application of Te Tiriti o Waitangi within governance and leadership.
Participants' engagement in practical, organisation-relevant discussions and activities focused on real governance considerations, decision making, relationships and future planning specific to your context.
Supported throughout the session, your team will leave with strengthened confidence, practical tools and actionable next steps that can be directly applied within your governance mahi.

An online follow-up session will take place on Tuesday 24 November 2026, 12:00pm to 1:30pm. Access to this session is included in the cost of your ticket and you will be sent a link to follow. This session is an opportunity, after the workshop, to reconnect with the group and ask any patai you may have.

Limited spaces are available. Morning tea and lunch are included.

Under clause 10.1 of Whangarei District Council’s Dog Control Bylaw 2024, the area of Okara – former Old Boys rugby grounds playing fields is temporarily closed to the public, including for dog access, until further notice due to multiple safety hazards identified on site.

Hātea walkway swing bridge temporarily closed

The Hātea walkway swing bridge on the walking trail from A H Reed Memorial Kauri Park to Whangārei Falls is closed following a failed safety inspection. We are working with specialist engineers and contractors to replace the bridge structure to ensure necessary stabilisation and safety improvements.

Te Matau a Pohe bridge marine, pedestrian and traffic closure

Te Matau a Pohe will be closed from 2:00pm to 10:00pm on Saturday 26 September 2026.
This is for an event being held on Dave Culham Drive (from Port Road to Riverside Drive, including the bridge) for the International Rally of Whangārei.
Only pedestrians who have paid to attend the rally event will be able to cross the bridge.
Skippers are encouraged to contact Bridge Control prior to setting off.
