Play Week Aotearoa is back!

From 20 to 26 October 2025, Whangārei will be buzzing with playful events that invite tamariki, whānau and the wider community to reconnect through creativity, movement and fun.

Play is essential for wellbeing – it builds confidence, connection and curiosity across all ages.

Whether it’s hands-on making, active outdoor movement or imaginative exploration, play helps strengthen body, mind and community.

Play Week Aotearoa shines a light on the importance of play in everyday life, reminding us that play is for everyone.

Throughout Play Week, visitors can collect a free Play Week Zine from Whangārei Central Library.

Designed as a foldable mini booklet, the zine reflects the activities on offer while celebrating our local native creatures, from the pekapeka to the gecko. It’s a fun, take-home reminder of the week’s events and a playful way to explore our unique environment.
