Kensington Park

Kensington Park is a large multipurpose recreational area on Kensington Avenue. 

There is a children's playground, free public tennis courts during summer months, and permanent cricket nets.

It is a major sportsground for the District, containing several regional facilities including:

  • two artificial hockey water turfs
  • all-weather mondo athletic track
  • table tennis hall
  • 12 outdoor netball courts
  • soccer pitches
  • cricket ovals
  • four public-use courts are available for tennis and netball. 

Parking

Off-road parking is available from Kensington Avenue, Western Hills Drive and on Park Avenue.

  • Large public green space used by many sporting codes.

Facilities at Kensington sportspark

  • Northland Hockey Association (artificial water turfs)
  • Trigg Arena – Whangarei Athletics (all weather track) and Whangarei Academy of Gymnastics (gymnasium)
  • Whangarei Table Tennis indoor facility
  • Kensington Fitness Centre (squash and basketball courts for hire)
  • McKay Stadium
  • Whangarei Netball Association (outdoor courts).
