The One Tree Point seawall, originally built by residents in the 1990s and later vested to Council, has reached the end of its serviceable life and requires renewal.
We are responsible for maintaining coastal protection assets to safeguard the coastline and ensure safe public access.
Council investigated two renewal options – rock revetment and timber replacement.
Rock revetment was initially favoured for its cost-effectiveness, however community engagement with neighbouring residents highlighted concerns around loss of amenity and coastal access.
In response to this feedback, the preferred approach is to replace the seawall with a timber structure, consistent with the existing construction, along with a single set of stairs to retain beach access and narrative signage celebrating the history of the area.
This project is undertaken in partnership with Patuharakeke.
