The Morningside flood-relief project is progressing well with the installation of a new pump station expected to be completed by the end of the first week of July 2025.

Once operational, the pump station will be capable of taking up to 4,600 litres of water out of Morningside every second.

Project Manager Felix Richter said we are expecting to have it up and running, and the footbridge reopened by the end of July 2025.

At the same time, construction has begun for stage 2 of the project, enthusiastically known by the team as the 'stormwater interceptor'.

This phase involves installing new 1.2- to 1.5-metre-wide stormwater pipes extending from higher ground near Morningside School down towards the end of Rawhiti Street.

The new pipeline will divert stormwater away from flood-prone areas, straight to the new pump station.
