Waipu Caves Road temporary road closure

Our contractor, Steve Bowling Contractors, will be replacing the bridge superstructure on Waipu Caves Road. 

This will require the temporary closure of Waipu Caves Road from Monday 16 June 2025 for up to four weeks.   Due to wet weather, the opening may be closer to 22 July 2025.

On-site preparation work has been underway for this project since mid-March 2025 with limited impact on drivers. 

Local residents have been advised via letter of the works and road closure.

An electronic sign board is located near the site to advise residents of the road closure.

The Waipu Caves are still accessible from Mangapai Caves Road, as the bridge closure is to the south of the Waipu Caves.
