Car parks

We provide a range of on-street parking and Pay and Display car parks for shoppers and visitors to the city centre.

Note:  We are currently experiencing technical issues with our Live Car Parking data.  Once the issues are fixed, we will make the live car parking data available again.  We apologise for any inconvenience.

Mobility parking

Mobility parking spaces are available throughout Whangārei for use by those with a Mobility Parking Permit. Parking in these spaces is free but maximum parking times still apply.

Concessions are also available for Mobility Parking Permit holders who park in standard parking spaces.

70 plus parking exemption

We provide free parking for residents aged 70 years and older at all our Council-owned carparks.

Motorcycle parking

Free, dedicated parking spaces for motorcycles and scooters are available in the city centre at:

  • James Street (midway)
  • Rathbone Street (near Robert Street)
  • Laurie Hall Park (at end of Robert Street)
  • Forum North

Parking fees and zones

Parking in the central city is divided into three zones. 

Parking charges and time limits apply from Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 6:00pm.

Parking charges and time limits also apply on Saturdays, 9:00am and 2:00pm for carparks and on-street parking within Parking Zone 1.

Reserved and/or monthly concession cards and payments

A limited number of reserved and/or monthly parking concession cards are available for the Hātea East, Railway, Vinery Lane and Water Street car parks.

Monthly Charges

The monthly charges for reserved and/or monthly concession cards are: 

  • Hātea East Carpark: $43.00 per month
  • Railway Road Carpark: $20.50 per month
  • Vinery Lane Carpark: $43.00 per month
  • Water Street Carpark: $43.00 per month

Applying for a reserved carpark space

Download and save a form to your computer first. You can then either:

  • print it, complete it by hand and send or deliver it to us; or
  • fill it out on your computer and save it before attaching it to an email to us.

Payment

Payment by direct debit is preferred. To arrange a new Debtors direct debit authority, fill in the Direct Debit online form.
