Raurimu Avenue in Onerahi is receiving safety upgrades as part of our Slow Streets programme.

The programme is designed to reduce the speed of cars in urban streets to make them safer for pedestrians and cyclists.

The work includes traffic calming and improvements to the school Kea crossing to help get kids to school and home safely.

Background of the project

We received a petition signed by more than 220 residents and parents of students at Raurimu Primary School.

We shared proposed designs with the local residents and school community in 2022. These designs were evaluated and revised to incorporate valuable feedback and suggestions from the community.

What we are doing in Raurimu Ave

  • Undertaking improvements to the existing zebra crossings in line with new standards and guidelines
  • Improving the safety of intersections
  • Installing speed bumps
  • Improving drainage
  • Increasing street lighting

What to expect

The works are expected to start in September 2023. We are aiming to begin in the school holiday break to minimise disruption. The work is due to be completed by December 2023.

There will be traffic management in place with some minor detours. Parking will be restricted in several areas to allow two-way traffic flow.

We will update this page with further details closer to the start of work.
