The main football pitch at Onerahi is receiving a complete overhaul with new irrigation, drainage and sand carpet surface.

During the project the main pitch will receive new sports lighting, so games and training can be undertaken in low light conditions and at night.

The work is part of Councils 2021 Active Recreation and Sports strategy which aspires to meet the current and future sport facility needs in the district.

What to expect

The main “Number 1” football pitch will be closed throughout the season whilst the work and new surface grows in.

Onerahi Football Club senior home games will be at various other venues throughout the 2024/2025 football season while the new field is being established. Once the work is complete, games will be returning to their main pitch.

All home junior and youth games will be unaffected, and the clubrooms will remain open.

There will be site fencing around the pitch and lighting areas.

Huitau Pā walkway partial closure

Part of Huitau Pa walkway is closed due to significant erosion. You can still access the track from the parking area, however please do not walk along the cliff and make sure you stay well away from the edge as it is unsafe. Signage is in place.

Due to changes in our scheduled programming, the start of the Dave Culham Drive project has been postponed and will be integrated into future planned activities. We are committed to beginning this work as soon as possible and enhancing this important infrastructure for our community. We appreciate your understanding as we make the necessary changes to ensure the project's success.

Flush water from taps in the mornings

The Ministry of Health recommends flushing a mugful of water from drinking-water taps each morning to remove any metals that may have dissolved from the plumbing fittings.
Although the health risk is small, this simple precaution is one all households on public and private water supplies should take.
