Community funding

Our funding programme supports local community mahi for the benefit of everyone in the Whangārei District.

Emergency Recovery Fund

This fund provides emergency financial support in response to the severe weather event which happened between 18 and 24 January 2026.
This fund is open.

Creative Communities Scheme (CCS)

This scheme supports grassroots arts and cultural projects and events happening locally.
This fund is open and closes on Saturday 28 February 2026.

Puanga Matariki Events Fund

This fund supports local community groups to create events to be part of Puanga Matariki Festival.
This fund is open and closes on Sunday 1 March 2026.

Youth Week Fund

This fund supports rangatahi and tamariki aged 12 to 24 to organise a community event or project to celebrate Youth Week in Whangārei.
This fund is open and closes on Sunday 8 March 2026.

Waste Minimisation Fund

This fund is for projects leading to measurable reductions in waste to landfill.
This fund is open and closes on Monday 4 May 2026.

Bike and Scooter Parking Fund

This fund supports projects that encourage biking and scooting to / from school or a community destination.
This fund is open and closes on Sunday 31 May 2026.

Community Association Grant

This grant supports resident and ratepayer groups, citizen associations and marae trusts that advocate for and uplift their local community.
This fund is open and closes on 31 May 2026.

Papakāinga Fund

This fund is for the development of new housing on ancestral Māori land.

Whangārei Communities Fund

This fund supports local community groups with their mahi for the benefit of everyone in the Whangārei District.
Apply any time.

Community Loans

We offer interest-free loans for the development of recreation facilities in the community.
Apply any time.
