Council's infrastructure teams are offering 'a massive thank you' to the Whangārei Heads community for its patience as contractor Northern Pipe and Civil renewed sections of watermain running along Whangārei Heads Road.

Since November 2024, a total of 2,160m of piping, installed in the 1990s, was replaced with new 200mm-diameter, crack-resistant PE pipe, which has a life expectancy of 100 years.

This work included replacing and undergrounding 1,440m of 150mm diameter piping in Taurikura that was damaged by Cyclone Gabrielle.

The teams appreciated the cooperation of those who experienced water shutdowns or traffic disruptions, and the supportive feedback on the way traffic was managed and disruption was minimised during the project.
