Renewing with pride: Sports park renewals across Whangārei
Published on 15 October 2025
Signs and bollards at many sports parks across the District have been renewed, making them safer, tidier and ready for summer fun.
Whangārei’s sports park renewals programme, maintaining and refreshing key infrastructure across our much-loved sports parks, is kicking off this spring!
“The renewal programme makes sure our parks function well, look good, and feel welcoming and ‘distinctly Whangārei’,” says Council’s Sport Development Officer Sarah Snowden.
“It’s a vital part of caring for our community. We replace old infrastructure, bollards, seating, fencing and parking areas around sports fields, with a focus on items that are safer, last longer and reflect the quality and pride we hold in our public spaces.
“It will also improve safety, accessibility, and the overall experience for park users – whether you're there for a weekend match, a weekday training session or simply enjoying the open space. It is important to us that people who use these spaces can see they are cared for, valued, and to show that we 'love it here'!
“Whether you're a player, coach, volunteer or supporter, these changes are about making sure our parks continue to be places we’re proud of – places that bring us together, support active lifestyles, and reflect the spirit of Whangārei.”
