Cameron Street Mall temporary road closure

Event date: Sunday, 09 August 2026 | 08:00 AM to 04:00 PM

Cameron Street (the cobblestone mall section) will be closed to allow a crane lift operation at 75 Cameron Street. The closure will include the Cameron Street / John Street intersection.

Period of closure: Sunday 9 August 2026, 8:00am to 4:00pm.

Pedestrian access through the immediate work area will be restricted during lifting operations, with marshals on-site to assist and direct pedestrians around the exclusion zone.

James Street vehicle access from Cameron Street will also be unavailable during the closure.

The closure has been scheduled on a Sunday to minimise impacts on CBD traffic and businesses.

Two mobility parks on Cameron Street will be unavailable for the day and customers are advised to proceed to the Central City Carpark on John Street.

Hātea walkway swing bridge temporarily closed

The Hātea walkway swing bridge on the walking trail from A H Reed Memorial Kauri Park to Whangārei Falls is closed following a failed safety inspection. We are working with specialist engineers and contractors to replace the bridge structure to ensure necessary stabilisation and safety improvements.

Kotuitui Whitinga footbridge marine closure

Kotuitui Whitinga bridge will be closed to marine traffic from 9:00am to 3:30pm on Sunday 2 August 2026 due to a Northpower power outage.

Pedestrians can cross the bridge as usual. Te Matau a Pohe bridge operations are not affected by the outage.

Skippers are encouraged to contact Bridge Control for updates prior to setting off. We appreciate your patience while Northpower undertakes this work.
