History

Onerahi Cemetery used to be named Grahamtown Cemetery.

Initially four acres of crown land was vested to the people of Whangārei for use as a cemetery but now only one hectare is used for this purpose.

In 1957 the land came under the governance of the Whangārei Borough Council after the dissolution of the Onerahi Town Board.
