Finish the year in style at one of Northland’s favourite Christmas racing events!

Ruakākā Christmas at the Races is back on Wednesday 16 December 2026, bringing together businesses, teams, clients, friends, families and racing fans for a fantastic afternoon of thoroughbred racing, Christmas celebrations and summer fun in the beautiful beachside setting of Ruakākā Racecourse.

Whether you're planning your end-of-year work function, entertaining clients, getting together with friends or simply looking for a great day out, Christmas at the Races is the perfect way to celebrate the festive season.

A great day of racing

Enjoy a full afternoon of thoroughbred racing, with eight races on the programme and all the excitement of race-day action.

Take in the racing from the grandstand, trackside or one of our hospitality areas, with big-screen coverage keeping you up to date with all the action.

Race times and the full race programme will be confirmed closer to race day. Gates open at 11:00am.

Christmas hospitality

Make your Christmas function one to remember with a choice of hospitality options designed for groups of all sizes.

Christmas atmosphere

Bring your Christmas spirit and enjoy an afternoon of live music, entertainment, festive decorations, great food and drinks, and the unique atmosphere of racing by the beach.

There will be plenty happening away from the track too, making Christmas at the Races an ideal opportunity to get your team together and celebrate the end of another year.

Transport and parking

Leave the car at home and enjoy the day with friends and colleagues.

Free return buses will operate from Whangārei, departing from Kamo Club, Kamo Hotel, Kensington Tavern, Rose Street Bus Terminal, with details and departure times to be confirmed closer to the event. The buses will return back to town approximately 20 minutes after the last race.

Carparking on course is free, with mobility parking available on the hill.

General admission

General admission is FREE.

Ruakākā Racecourse is a 'no BYO' venue.

Bring the family, meet up with friends or make a day of it with colleagues. There is plenty of space to enjoy the racing for free, including the grass hill and shaded grandstand seating.
