Pōwhiri for Newcomers to Whangārei

Te Huinga hapū collective, supported by Whangarei District Council, invites newcomers and our multicultural communities to a pōwhiri (welcoming ceremony).

Our Welcoming Communities programme brings together communities to make the places we love more welcoming for everyone.

The pōwhiri will provide an opportunity to experience a formal Māori welcome with tikanga (customs) and manaakitanga (hospitality).

It will start from 5:00pm, followed by shared kai from 6:30pm.

Please bring a plate of food to share if you can.
