Free Māori Sign Language course with local tutor Matua Eddie Hokianga (Ngāti Kahungunu, Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Porou).

Weekly sessions over five consecutive weeks for beginners to build communication skills and connection. Open to all.

Hātea walkway swing bridge temporarily closed

The Hātea walkway swing bridge on the walking trail from A H Reed Memorial Kauri Park to Whangārei Falls is closed following a failed safety inspection. We are working with specialist engineers and contractors to replace the bridge structure to ensure necessary stabilisation and safety improvements.

Kotuitui Whitinga footbridge marine closure

Kotuitui Whitinga bridge will be closed to marine traffic from 9:00am to 3:30pm on Sunday 2 August 2026 due to a Northpower power outage.

Pedestrians can cross the bridge as usual. Te Matau a Pohe bridge operations are not affected by the outage.

Skippers are encouraged to contact Bridge Control for updates prior to setting off. We appreciate your patience while Northpower undertakes this work.
