Live Dairy Day at the Jack Morgan Museum

Event date: Saturday, 21 March 2026 | 10:00 AM to 03:00 PM

Indoor museum display showing a life-sized model of a cow in a wooden milking stall with a mannequin seated beside it, simulating hand-milking. A calf model stands in the foreground. The stall includes rustic wooden walls, metal buckets, stools, and vintage farm tools. A sign above reads “The cow shed: A lifestyle.” Historical photos and information panels are mounted on the walls, creating an authentic heritage farming scene.

Experience dairy farming firsthand at the Jack Morgan Museum.

Watch a cow being milked; try your hand with the cream separator and make butter. Use the walk-through cow shed and learn about milk testing. If machinery is your thing, indulge yourself in our extensive collection of cream separators and other farm machinery.

See a collection of old model tractors; hunt for treasure; talk on the old telephone exchange; and try your hand at morse code.

While you are here, explore the other displays on offer encapsulating Hukerenui’s pioneering history; a compelling story of the men and women who developed the land – bushmen, gum diggers, farmers and hoteliers.

We have plenty for the whole family to enjoy.

Finish the day with a drink and food from the grill at the historic Hukerenui Hotel.
