Fit for Life every Tuesday at Kamo

As the body ages, balance and strength can decline. Join us for a specially designed strength and balance class for older adults that will leave you feeling good.

This weekly class focuses on improving strength, flexibility, core, and overall balance through gentle yet effective exercises. It's also recognised by ACC's Live Stronger For Longer programme.

What to expect

The routine starts with a light pace cardio and a combination of dynamic stretches to warm your muscles and joints from head to toe.

We then move into standing strength training to help build strength and endurance, mostly focusing on working the legs and some arm training.

After this we continue with strengthening our bodies from a chair-based position using resistance bands.

Returning to standing for our balance, focusing on specifically designed balance exercises that help improve our ankle stabilisers and dual task movements. All balance is done with guided progression to help challenge and improve over time.

Following this we return to our chairs for seated core, which usually concludes with a final exercise that creates a bit of laughter.

At the end we calm and stretch our bodies from both seated and standing positions, some of which include balance and joint health.

Breathing and progression queues are reminded throughout the routine.

Who can join

This class is suitable for older adults of all fitness levels who are looking to improve their physical well-being in a welcoming and inclusive setting. Whether you're new to exercise or looking to maintain your current level of fitness, our certified instructors will provide modifications and encouragement to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.

  • We recommend that you wear comfortable clothing or active wear and sports shoes.
  • Feel free to bring your own refreshments, we suggest water to keep hydrated!
  • This event requires you bring cash as there are no EFTPOS facilities.
