Building Bridges Between Puanga Matariki and Astronomy

Event date: Saturday, 31 May 2025 | 07:00 PM to 09:00 PM

Image of Planetarium North.

Join us for a tour of the night sky and see where Puanga Matariki rises in late June as dawn breaks.

Humans have observed the cluster of stars we know as Matariki since caveman times, and there are stories about this unique cluster in every culture.

More recently, astronomers have also studied them with interest and discovered many facts about this nearby celestial wonder that we can use to build a bridge from our ancestors to ourselves and beyond.

Experience what our ancestors felt when they first sighted it each year.

Event will run regardless of weather, as the event is held in the indoor planetarium.

Accessibility information: Wheelchair access, accessible parking, viewing area.
