We are focusing on enhancing pedestrian safety with improvements to the raised platform on Vine Street.

The upgrade will convert the existing courtesy crossing into a zebra crossing, incorporating new lighting to ensure better visibility and removing the temporary steel plates.

Some minor footpath renewals will be undertaken around the worksite and new drains are being installed to further improve drainage in the area.

This new crossing will provide a safe connection between the Rose Street bus hub, Quality Street and central Whangārei.

What we are doing

  • Creating a zebra crossing on the existing raised platform.
  • Installing new streetlights.
  • Improving drainage.
  • Installing new signage and road markings.

What to expect

These works are expected to take three weeks to complete.

During the construction period, there will be times where the road is reduced to one lane with stop / go traffic control.

There will also be areas where parking is restricted. Clear signage will be posted to indicate these restrictions.

Traffic control personnel will be on-site during work hours (7:00am to 6:00pm, Monday to Saturday).

Our contractors will work to reduce noise, maintain access to Vine Street businesses and the public car park, and minimise disruptions during peak traffic times.
