Development of a new artificial-turf football pitch with lighting at Tikipunga is aimed at increasing football field capacity for Whangārei.

This facility will provide consistent, high-quality playing conditions irrespective of weather and will be accessible to all football clubs and user groups.

Football, more than any other grass code, has the highest number of field closures and games required to be rescheduled due to pitch unavailability in weather events. 

The artificial turf will replace an existing grass training space located immediately in front of the Tikipunga Football Club.

The artificial turf is to be marked with one senior / full-sized field, overlaid with two junior pitches allowing for a range of user groups, targeted at maximising the usage.

There has been consideration to how we can make the field accessible, from access to facilities, to the colour of the line marking we have chosen.

The artificial turf upgrade is set to complement recent clubroom renovations, carried out by Tikipunga Football Club and Northern Regional Football.
