Tauroa Street before the roadworks.

Tauroa Street, Fairburn Street and Hedley Place intersection in Raumanga received safety upgrades as part of our Slow Streets programme.

These streets had been areas of concern for several years, with residents consistently reaching out to us about vehicles travelling at high speeds on these roads.

Towards the end of 2022, early designs were created and shared with local residents for their input on proposed solutions.

At a later date, these designs underwent a review process to incorporate valuable feedback from the community.

These traffic-calming works have received 100 per cent government funding through the Transport Choices programme, which is designed to create walkable neighbourhoods and support safe, green and healthy travel.

What we did in the area

  • created safer intersections
  • installed new raised platforms and speed bumps
  • improved and renewing footpaths
  • improved drainage
  • installed new signage
  • increased street lighting.
