Selling food for fundraising or charity

If you're selling food to raise funds or for charity, it must be safe to eat. No one should get sick from eating your food.

You don't need a food registration certificate if you are:

  • raising funds for charity, cultural or community groups less than 20 times per year
  • providing food at sports clubs, social clubs or marae where food is not the main purpose of the event
  • selling food once a year at an event like a local fair.

You will need to notify us about your food stall for assessment.

You do need a food registration certificate if you are:

  • fundraising more than 20 times a year
  • catering events at clubs, or selling food at club bars or restaurants
  • bartering or exchanging food commercially, selling food commercially at fairs, markets, or community events more than once a year.
