In partnership with local haukāinga, we are looking at practical and sustainable ways to maintain the timber groynes at Pātaua South.

Project Lead Dylan Mason-Mckerrow said Council understands the importance of protecting both our environment and community resources.

"We're exploring options that help prevent microplastics from entering the ocean, supporting the long-term health of our marine environment.

"This will include a trial of environmentally friendly materials in select areas to see how they perform over time. We will also trial groyne construction without geotextile cloth in some spots to better understand the outcomes and reduce potential waste.

"These investigations are being done carefully and with cost-effectiveness in mind, ensuring that any future solutions are sustainable for both the environment and our community budget."
