Deputy Mayor Scott McKenzie greets Ngakiri Antonovich, a new member of the Accessibility Advisory Group, at the whakatau.
Whangarei District Council welcomed 20 new members to the Accessibility Advisory Group and Youth Advisory Group at a whakatau (traditional Māori welcome ceremony) on Wednesday 28 January 2026.
New members attended with their whānau and friends, and were welcomed by Council staff and elected members as part of the wider Council whānau.
Members are appointed for a three‑year term.
The advisory groups help Council hear from older people, people with access needs and young people, so decisions better reflect the needs of the Whangārei District community.
