The Te Kamo village carpark is frequently used by the local public due to its proximity to several businesses, schools and nearby daycare centres.

Te Kamo Community Inc representatives have highlighted that pedestrian safety in this space is at high risk, particularly for schoolchildren and families who use the area.

The Te Kamo village carpark is scheduled for resurfacing in April 2026 as part of renewal works to repair existing pavement damage.

Alongside these works, improvements will also be made to enhance pedestrian safety and the organisation of parking spaces.

The scope of the project will include:

creating safe pedestrian routes to connect areas with high foot traffic
re-marking and reconfiguring parking spaces to improve consistency
refurbishing or removing gardens, bins, signs and bollards
removing unsafe / unhealthy trees or trees that are damaging the carpark and pipes (new trees will be planted)
asphalt resurfacing.

Due to the tight site constraints, ensuring safety for road users and workers, along with a desire to have the works completed as soon as possible (prior to winter), sections of the carpark may be temporarily closed at various times.

Oakura public meeting

There will be a public meeting covering local land-slips, public facilities, wastewater, and ongoing local projects, to be held at the Oakura Sports Complex (Wharua Road) on Thursday 26 March 2026 from 2:00pm until 4:00pm. All are welcome, especially Oakura locals.

Hātea walkway swing bridge temporarily closed

The Hātea walkway swing bridge on the walking trail from A H Reed Memorial Kauri Park to Whangārei Falls is closed following a failed safety inspection. We are working with specialist engineers and contractors to replace the bridge structure to ensure necessary stabilisation and safety improvements.
