Community Fund

Community Fund

The Community Fund supports many different types of local initiatives benefiting the community. These can include:

  • festivals
  • workshops
  • programmes
  • facility improvements
  • minor purchases and
  • operating costs.

Amount: Most grants average around $6,000. The most you can apply for is $20,000.

The requests made to this Fund are typically four times the available budget, so applicants are encouraged to be realistic in their budgets and in their requests, and to present a clear case for support, aligned with one of our Funding Priorities.

Closing dates:

  • 1 February 2023
  • 3 April 2023
  • Further dates to be confirmed in April 2023.

Applying for an event

If your event is a small, community-based event and you are seeking less than $10,000, you can apply for the Community Fund.

Depending on the size and type of event you're planning, there are other funds you can apply for.

Eligible organisations and using an ‘umbrella’ group

Groups that do not meet the criteria of an eligible organisation in our Community Funding Policy will need to engage an organisation that does meet the criteria to apply on their behalf.

The umbrella group as the applicant will be the main point of contact, the receiver for any funds granted, and responsible for the appropriate use of those funds.

Applying for operational costs in the Community Fund

If applying for a contribution to your organisation’s overheads (such as wages, electricity, and insurance), it is important to provide clear context for the request and its need and benefit for the organisation.

Successful applicants will demonstrate that the need for support is in response to a change in circumstances that has created a budget shortfall – such as expected funding/income falling through or the need to increase staff hours to meet increased demand for services. It will also be beneficial to demonstrate how this funding gap will be managed in the future.

Business-as-usual applications and organisations in a strong financial position may struggle to be successful in applying to us because of the pressure on our funds. In these circumstances, nationally led funding opportunities may be a better fit.
