This project completed the final link in the Waipū Cove Trail, connecting the Waipū township to Waipū Cove.

The cycleway runs through a residential area south of the Waipū township, and finding the best route has taken time and careful planning.

This portion of the cycleway was built on the eastern side of Cove Road, with the western side widened and realigned for about 300 metres. This option improved visibility and avoided affecting private property.

A portion of the cycleway is concrete with the remainder in gravel and is about 2.5 metres wide.

Hātea walkway swing bridge temporarily closed

The Hātea walkway swing bridge on the walking trail from A H Reed Memorial Kauri Park to Whangārei Falls is closed following a failed safety inspection. We are working with specialist engineers and contractors to replace the bridge structure to ensure necessary stabilisation and safety improvements.
