Candidate statement:
Kia ora, I'm Chanelle Armstrong.
I'm standing for Council to help shape a future where people, place, and planet are deeply cared for, and where every voice is heard. In my professional life, I will help local and national agencies plan and design services alongside communities, making sure decisions are shaped by the people they affect. I bring a background in community development, social services and policy.
With leadership experience across government, youth sports, and grass roots groups, I know how to bridge voices on the ground with decisions at the top. I'm passionate about equity, climate resilience, and building partnerships that progress shared goals. I believe in responsible spending, strong local democracy, better planning for wellbeing, and building communities that feel good to live in. I love our rural and coastal communities, and it would be my privilege to roll my sleeves up and work alongside you.

Candidate statement:
I've lived in Tutukaka for 40-plus years and previously served three years as your local councillor. I know how the system works - and I know it needs fixing.
Like many of you, I've watched rates rise year after year, while debt grows and money is spent on projects that don't reflect our core needs.
I'm standing on three core principles: Bringing better financial responsibility to the council - no more blank cheques. We need to know where every dollar is going so wasteful spending can be eliminated; Getting back to basics by focusing on council's core role: Roads, water rubbish, and essential infrastructure. Not the feel-good 'well-being' nonsense we are now paying for - and your children's children will be paying for; The excessive rate increases must stop. Rate increases should be capped at a level affordable for households, farmers, and businesses.
That's why I'm asking for your support.

Candidate statement:
With a BLA (Hons), I have knowledge and experience in design, planning, community consultation, ecology, environmental restoration and law. I have a working knowledge of Council processes, having submitted on bylaws and plans for many years. I believe the knowledge and skills I have attained will assist me in carrying out my duties should I be elected.
Over 30 years, I have built a long and extensive history of volunteering. Currently, I chair Whangaruru Sth Residents & Ratepayers Assoc., sit on a further 2 committees and volunteer as a local First Aid Responder.
Ratepayers are seeing soaring rates and ballooning debt, whilst transparency and accountability have declined. Public satisfaction with Council continues to fall. Going forward, Council will need to make the hard decisions on how best to spend ratepayer's money. Getting the basics right, cutting wasteful spending and advocating for Hikurangi-Coastal are my top priorities.

Candidate statement:
Born in Whangarei and raised in Northland, I have deep roots in our region and a life-long commitment to our community. As a business owner and socialite, I'm known for my 'jump in and find solutions' approach.
My experience working with people from all walks of life, alongside community organisations, has shaped my open, transparent, and practical decision-making style. I'm passionate about wellbeing, social issues and support local fundraising and volunteer initiatives.
I believe in responsible budgeting, to prioritise, community needs over wants. Ratepayers deserve sensible decisions, a clear focus on value, stability, and long-term benefits.
I will ensure the community has a strong voice in decisions that matter. Elderly to be heard and young adults offered initiatives to stay in the city. I bring energy, integrity, and a real ability to listen, understand, and act.
I'd be honoured to represent the Hikurangi-Coastal General Ward on the Whangarei District Council.

Candidate statement:
My name is Vicky Humphreys. I moved from Auckland to Northland 30 years ago and have lived in Hikurangi for the past 18 years. I was a small to medium business owner for 19 years before transitioning to voluntary community work after my child was born 14 years ago. I currently work as a paid community worker and continue to volunteer as a first responder, librarian, shuttle driver, and with various local groups.
If elected councillor for the Hikurangi-coastal ward, I'll prioritise youth engagement and participation, back community-led development, strengthen council-community communication, and advocate for better funding for rural and coastal areas that have previously been underfunded. I'll be as accessible as possible for constituents of this ward.
For the past 14 years, I have demonstrated consistent commitment to the Hikurangi community and I am confident in my ability to represent the wider ward impartially and effectively as their councillor.

Candidate statement:
I'm Stephen Martin, though many know me as 'Tractor.' I have lived in the Hikurangi-Coastal ward pretty much all my life.
I have a passion for helping people and being involved in community organisations. These include being an active member of the Northland Fieldays committee and Kamo High School Board of Trustees. I've held various roles in both local and national organisations, and proudly support the rural sector as a farmer and rural professional.
As your councillor, I'll be visible and committed to representing your views. I believe it's time to reduce unnecessary regulations that hinder growth and drive-up costs. Our roads need to be a focus. We need to cap rate increases at the rate of inflation and focus on core services.
You can elect two councillors - please give me your #1 or #2 preference so I can be your voice around the council table.
Thank you.

Candidate statement:
I am standing for re-election because I care about our communities and delivering results for the Hikurangi-Coastal Ward.
Over the past three years I have served full time as your councillor, giving the role everything I've got. As a registered architect with over 15 years experience, I bring an understanding of planning, consents and budgets, along with the perseverance to get projects done.
I have been a strong advocate for our ward, helping secure council approval for many local projects and working on plans that support growth and improvements across the district. I pride myself on clear communication, being available when people need help and preparing thoroughly for meetings and decisions.
I was raised on a Mangakahia dairy farm and now live in Ngunguru with my wife and two kids. I'm proud to serve all corners of our ward. I'd be honoured to continue that work. Vote 1 for me.
