Central Library flooring replacement project

The Whangārei Central Library is undergoing a flooring upgrade over the next couple of months which started at the beginning of August 2025. 

While we will remain open throughout most of the project, the contractors will block off sections of the library. These will be inaccessible to both customers and staff for a day or two to ensure everyone's safety and comfort.

We understand this may cause some inconvenience and we truly appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to improve our library. 

Progress update

We’re delighted to announce that re-carpeting of the public areas on the ground and first floors of the library is now complete! The café and magazines area have a fresh new laminate floor.

The final stage of work will be re-flooring the public toilets starting 1 September 2025. These will be done one floor at a time, so toilets will always be available either on the ground or first floor.
