The Pou Revisited: A Community Conversation

Next date: Sunday, 14 September 2025 | 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM

The 10 pou that are outside Whangārei Central Library with the Hihiaua Cultural Centre logo.

It has been nearly 20 years since the 10 pou were raised outside Wānanga Whakatupu Mātauranga, Whangārei Central Library.

The pou represent a rich diversity of cultures: Māori, Pasifika, Celtic, Dalmatian, Korean and others that have woven the social fabric of Whangārei.

Join us for a guided walk and kōrero with Te Warihi Hetaraka, project leader for the Pou project. Together, we’ll visit each of these stunning carvings, reflect on their stories and celebrate the community spirit that brought this project into being.
