Ron Te Kawa is a takatāpui fabric artist, educator, and storyteller renowned for his vibrant and elaborate whakapapa quilts. His work explores mātauranga Māori (Māori knowledge), his whakapapa, and atua wāhine (female deities) through bold colour and appliqué.
Following a dynamic career in costume design and fashion, Te Kawa has dedicated himself to full-time art-making and teaching. He runs workshops, using sewing as a conduit to connect with people, expertly guiding participants to confidently create with fabric and express their whakapapa (genealogy) through textiles.
