Meeting rooms for hire

Whangārei Central Library has two meeting rooms available for hire to community groups, businesses and individuals: the May Bain Room and the Leonard Room.

These rooms are available only during the library opening hours:

  • Monday to Friday: 9 am to 6 pm
  • Saturday: 9 am to 1 pm
  • Sunday: 10 am to 1 pm
  • Public Holidays: Closed

May Bain Room

The May Bain Room is situated on the first floor of the library.


  • The room can seat up to a maximum of 40 people, theatre style.
  • 6 conference tables (each seat 6).
  • Whiteboard.
  • Audiovisual system - ceiling mounted projector and speakers.


A free service is available through Library Wi-Fi.

Please note:
We do not recommend using this Wi-Fi service for streaming video as we cannot guarantee a good uninterrupted connection. We advise you bring a broadband dongle or use a Wi-Fi hot spot service from a smartphone.

Room hire fees

All fees are GST inclusive.

  • $25 booking fee plus $25 room hire per hour or part thereof.
  • Local non-profit community groups receive a 50% discount:
    $12.50 booking fee and $12.50 room hire per hour, or part thereof.
  • Data projector hire: $30.
  • Supply hot and chilled water, coffee, tea, milk, sugar and paper cups: $12.

Leonard Room

The Leonard Room is a small room situated on the ground floor of the library, at the front, left of the entry foyer.


  • The room can seat up to a maximum of 8 people
  • 1 conference table (seat 4)
  • 4 desks.

Please note: The room is not soundproof. Data projector and refreshments are not available with this room hire.

Room hire fees

  • $10 per hour or part thereof, GST inclusive.
